The Pilot Project 3 "Hydrogen Mediated Waste to Green Fuel" of the Tech4YOU Ecosystem (Goal 2.1) aims at the construction of a pilot-scale plant for the CO2 conversion from industrial activities to biofuels, through processes of methanation and hydrogenation.

The role of ISTP-CNR is part of a collaboration with the University of Basilicata, oriented towards the characterization of thermodynamics and plasma transport investigations with a self-consistent kinetic model.
The aim is to explore the possibility of exploiting low temperature plasma technologies to favor the conversion mechanism through the activation of CO2. This by conducting kinetic simulations with advanced chemical models to characterize the plasma and define which conditions maximize the conversion coefficient.
An advanced kinetic approach will be adopted by CNR-ISTP Bari to model the activity of CO2 discharges for conversion into methane. In this model the evolution over time of the chemical species is considered in a self-consistent way with respect to the kinetics of free electrons, allowing an analysis of the collisional mechanisms responsible for the conversion/destruction of CO2, through a selective activation of the internal degrees of freedom of the molecule.
